The Sweet Spot
Is not life in this world like a canoe trip down a raging, wild river? We are constantly seeing this on the left bank or that on the right, and we try so desperately to guide our little canoe against an unstoppable force (the raging waters bent on finding the sea) only to find our efforts ruining the scenic, down-river adventure. There are those who are so dogmatic about that “something” they want to see that they will even, in all futility, try to paddle upstream to return to the object of their obsession.
All the while we fight the current, drain our strength, and enrage our emotions with one disappointment after another, we are missing the whole point of the endeavor - to enjoy the scenic wonders of a canoe trip down a wild, raging river through an untamed backcountry with backdrops of snow-covered peaks, ever shifting cloud formations, and the occasional and all-anticipated glimpse of a wild moose or bear. Then, exhausted and frustrated to the point of collapse, we give up.
We surrender, and our canoe, all by itself, finds that sweet spot in the middle of the stream, and our journey becomes effortless. With a simple stroke here and a nudge there, we correct the attitude of our vessel and it slips quietly, smoothly, peacefully down stream. That’s the power of God! He is not found in the stroke of your paddle. He is the river itself!
So relax. Find His Way, that sweet spot in the middle of the river, Jesus Christ, and enjoy the ride! For guidance to The Sweet Spot, consult a modern, easy reading version of the New Testament, visit your local church, or ask a believer for help. That’s what we’re here for. God bless you.
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light,” Matthew 11:28-30.
